Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period is delayed by one week and the pregnancy test is negative. I had unprotected sex. My last period date was in the second week of last month and I had taken I-pill three times between the last week of last month and the first week of this month, but I did not bleed. My periods are delayed by 10 days and my pregnancy test is negative. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for trusting us with your health care.

I have gone through your history and I can understand your concern. Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of Levonorgestrel (I-pill) and happens due to the sudden withdrawal of hormones from your body. So, it is not necessary that the same must happen to everyone. You may have menstrual irregularities and, in your case, it could be due to a hormonal imbalance caused by Levonorgestrel (I-pill). Hence, it is a little unpredictable as to when you might get your next period. It might get delayed by seven to 10 days. Since you took Levonorgestrel (I-pill) on time within 24 hours, there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
