Hello doctor,
My 5-year-old son has an inflamed and swollen area on his penis, particularly at the opening of the urethra. We noticed this one week ago while bathing him. We used Baneocin powder and washed his penis without soap, but there was no noticeable improvement. He says it does not hurt at all. Is it balanitis or something else? It seems to involve the meatus. I have attached the photos. Please check.

From the pictures that you have shared (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), it seems to be a mild inflammation of the urethral meatus, and it could be due to an irritation caused by soap or diaper. The best solution is to change the diaper for a short duration. Please do not use powder; just clean and dry the area. I suggest you use a bathing soap that is suitable for sensitive skin. And kindly apply Hydrocortisone cream on the affected area thrice daily for one week. Try to make him diaper-free for as long as possible.
