I have inflammatory bowel disease. Is my ulcer curable?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had abdominal pain six months back. And I did the scanning. It showed inflammatory bowel disease. I did a colonoscopy. It reveals terminal ileal ulcer 4. Biopsy suggestive of non-specific ileitis. I m taking Mesacol 400 mg tablet BD. The doctor told to stop after six months. So, I stopped now. But again I have mild abdominal pain and bloating. No any other complaint like diarrhea, or rectal bleeding. Is my ulcer curable?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Considering the inflammatory bowel disease, it seems you have milder form of the disease. This is a chronic disease with periods of remission and reactivation. So in you, it is likely that you may get such recurrences in the future for which you would need repeated course of treatment, but some patients do achieve remission without much reactivation. So course is variable and in you, it appears that it would mostly be non severe.
