Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Recently, my friend inhaled half a bottle of phenyl accidentally. As a result, she had severe vomiting and was admitted to the hospital and discharged in a day. Now, she has a high fever, is unable to eat anything, and is vomiting whatever she eats. How long will it take for her to recover?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will surely help you out.

Did she inhale the phenyl or consume it? If inhaled, there is nothing much to worry about. However, if she has consumed it, she needs Ryle tube insertion and stomach aspiration. Initially, there will be CNS stimulation followed by CNS depression and coma. Fever may be due to hospital-acquired pneumonia or any other infection. I suggest you consult your doctor for further investigations and treatment.

I hope this helps.

Take care.
