Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

In the case of people with very dark skin tones, hyperpigmentation as a consequence of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which includes insect bites, may prove to be more stubborn.

The reason behind this phenomenon is increased sensitivity of the cells responsible for producing the pigment, as a result of which even small insect bites can cause hyperpigmentation lasting for several months. Therefore, it would be more efficient to use a multifaceted treatment strategy.

Goals of therapy:

  • Limiting overproduction of excessive melanin.

  • Gradually increasing the cell renewal process.

  • Prevention of sun damage to avoid additional discoloration of the skin.

Prior to choosing laser therapy, a proper skincare routine will be beneficial in many ways.

  • In the morning, cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 on the area affected by dark spots every day, regardless of the short period spent in the sun, since it protects from ultraviolet radiation, which might worsen hyperpigmentation.

  • At night, apply a thin layer of hydroquinone 2% cream on the spots. This substance inhibits melanogenesis and may result in improvement of pigmentation.

  • Apply Glycolic acid 10% and Kojic acid cream. There are creams containing these substances.

I would suggest the following:

  • Maintain the rotation for a period of 8 weeks.

  • At the end of two months, discontinue the use of Hydroquinone in order to prevent the development of rebound pigmentation and other side effects.

  • The treatment containing glycolic acid and Kojic Acid can be used alternatively on alternate days for one more month along with the application of sunscreen daily.

Consistent use will lead to visible lightening of the dark spots after some weeks. Improvement in patients with dark complexion takes more time, but can be achieved if followed consistently and gently.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
