Hi doctor,
I am a 33-year-old woman and had the paragard device about two and a half weeks ago. Yesterday afternoon I experienced nausea (although did not vomit), as well as lower back pain and cramps. I had no fever. Today the lower back pain and cramps continued, and I just took my temperature and it was 100.4 (after taking 200 mg Ibuprofen about 90 minutes ago). I am concerned about potential infection. Should I visit an urgent care clinic tonight or wait a bit longer?

Since it has been inserted two weeks ago there is a remote possibility that these symptoms are because of the paragard. It can be a totally unrelated thing but still, you need an examination. Are there any other symptoms like discharge or irregular bleeding? There are various other causes of low back ache and fever also. It can also be a presentation of any viral infection. Usually, paragard insertion if done under aseptic precaution is less likely to cause pelvic inflammation if there was no prior infection. The exact diagnosis could be made only after examination. So visit your doctor but do not panic. If the pain and fever subside today then you can wait till your appointment but if you have a fever again then have a consultation. Instead of taking Ibuprofen take Paracetamol.
