How to manage itchy skin around the mouth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I live at a high altitude with a mostly dry climate, except during the monsoon. Before this monsoon kicked in, I felt itching around my lips and mouth. Later that day, the skin darkened. Why?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read through your query, and here is my opinion. Itching and darkening of the skin around the mouth can occur due to various reasons, such as allergies, dermatitis, or extremely dry and cold weather. In your case, it is likely due to the last reason. I would advise you to use a good moisturizer, preferably one containing hyaluronic acid. Natural remedies like pure aloe vera gel or coconut oil may also help. If this does not work, it would be advisable to have yourself examined by a dermatologist.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.
