What causes itching all over the body during pregnancy?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 33 weeks pregnant. I have itching all over the body for the past three weeks. So the doctor suggested me to do an LFT test. I have an ALT of 27 U/L and AST of 24 U/L. But alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is high with a value of 225 IU/L.
Do I have OC and ICP?
Kindly suggest me a treatment.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity).
This condition is known as pregnancy-related cholestasis. Your other liver enzymes are normal. It is a benign condition, and it will go away after delivering a baby. Just be careful about antibiotics. Some antibiotics, such as Macrolides, can aggravate this condition.
Otherwise, repeat the testing once every two to three weeks by keeping an eye on this problem.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Can I start to take Udiliv 300 mg twice daily?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Ursodeoxycholic acid is helpful in itching. If you have itching, you can start taking it, and it will be useful. You can also take antihistamines like Meclizine 25 or 50 mg twice daily. All the above tablets are used to relieve itching, and the actual disease will go away after pregnancy.
Warm regards.
