This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 35-year-old male. I have had an unexpected sore on the foreskin of my penis for the past two weeks. It just suddenly erupted and feels itchy.

Can you please suggest some cream or medicine?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

There are a few possible causes for your issue, which include -

  • One common reason is a fungal infection, such as candida, which thrives in warm, moist areas and can cause redness, irritation, and small sores.

  • Another possibility is balanitis, which is inflammation of the foreskin and head of the penis, which is often due to irritation, poor hygiene, or infection.

  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as herpes or syphilis can also cause sores. Herpes lesions are usually painful and may be accompanied by blisters.

  • Sometimes, the itchy sore could also be a reaction to soaps, condoms, or detergents, such as contact dermatitis.

I suggest the following medications, which you can take with the consent of your treating doctor-

  • For now, you can apply an antifungal cream like Clotrimazole one percent, two to three times daily, especially if there is no pain or pus.

  • Also, keep the area clean and dry, and avoid using harsh soaps.

  • But if there is significant itching, a mild steroid cream like Hydrocortisone one percent can help for a few days, but only if the skin is not broken or blistered.

Since the sore has been present for two weeks and has not healed, you must consult a dermatologist or urologist.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have any more doubts.

Take care.
