Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
How long should I wait after stopping Ketorolac before consuming cannabis edibles? I have been taking two to three Ketorolac pills (10 mg each) daily for the past five days to manage pain before my surgery. Now that I want to discontinue Ketorolac and resume using cannabis edibles, I would like to know how long I should wait. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Ketorolac (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID) has a half-life of approximately five to six hours, meaning most of the drug is eliminated from your system within 24 hours after your last dose. However, its effects on the stomach and kidneys may persist longer.
Considerations before taking cannabis edibles:
Ketorolac can irritate the stomach lining and increase the risk of ulcers or bleeding. Cannabis, particularly edibles, may sometimes worsen acid reflux or nausea. If you have experienced stomach discomfort, waiting 24 to 48 hours before consuming cannabis might be safer.
Since you are taking Ketorolac before surgery, consult your doctor before using cannabis, as it can affect anesthesia and blood clotting.
If you have any kidney issues or are taking other medications, it is advisable to wait at least 24 to 48 hours before resuming cannabis use.
While there is no significant direct interaction between Ketorolac and cannabis, both substances can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Be cautious if you decide to take cannabis soon after stopping Ketorolac.
If you have not experienced any side effects from Ketorolac, waiting a full day should be sufficient. However, if you have had stomach pain, nausea, or other discomfort, allowing your body an extra day or two to recover may be beneficial.
I hope this helps.
Please revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
