How far is SMILE laser eye treatment safe and effective, and what are its side effects?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My query is regarding the laser treatment called SMILE, which is used for eye power correction. Can you tell me how safe is this SMILE surgery for the eyes? Do we have any side effects of this? Do you recommend undergoing a SMILE procedure for the eyes?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction) is a very safe procedure to get rid of glasses. No surgical procedure guarantees a 100 % success rate, but SMILE has a very high success rate and is very safe. Like any other refractive surgery, it has side effects like dryness, chances of over-correction or under-correction, etc. Still, these side effects are either non-serious or very rare. The chances of having severe complications are significantly less. I do recommend SMILE surgery for eyes. I hope this answer will help you. Please feel free to discuss other doubts.
