What could a lump near the ear for 8 months mean?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a lump on the lower side of my face near my ear for almost eight months. It is not movable, but it did shift slightly lower over time. A couple of days ago, it started causing a feeling of pressure in my ear. When I touch the lump, it causes slight nasal congestion. I am not sure if it is related, but my throat sometimes feels like there is something stuck in it.

The lump appeared suddenly, and it has not changed in size since it has not gotten bigger or smaller. I cannot tell if it is squishy, but it does feel somewhat slippery. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Based on your symptoms, you may have developed a dermoid cyst (a benign cutaneous developmental anomaly), which can occur near the ear and may be responsible for the pressure you are experiencing. Have you had any history of contraceptive use or trauma in that area?

I strongly recommend visiting a daycare clinic or hospital so that the mass can be removed through a procedure called an excision biopsy.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
