What could cause lung nodules in someone with cervical cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year. Standard treatment of chemoradiation and brachytherapy was successful. I had a PET scan and an MRI to confirm. My most recent CT scan showed lung nodules and an enlarged hilar lymph node. I have a chemo and immunotherapy treatment plan.

I had glandular fever about 10 years ago. Most years, I get a phase of sore throat that nags and causes extreme tiredness. I have always considered it a flare-up and done nothing. It goes with time. All through my treatment, my ALT and ALP readings were off. It was always out of range and took a while after treatment to return to normal.

I also had pain in my spleen. I am now wondering if I had glandular fever last year. There is nothing to do about it now. Could that cause nodules in my lungs? Particularly as I wonder if I am having a flare-up at the moment and if my ALP is slightly raised again. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am in favor of your oncologist's opinion. Because the chances of your lung lesions metastasizing are high. Over three to four weeks, they most likely should increase in size if malignant. If there is still any doubt, a biopsy can be done to confirm their nature.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
