Should I stop Lurasidone due to restlessness and insomnia?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been using Lurasidone for nine days now and would like to know whether it is okay to discontinue its usage. The reason being that I am having various side effects such as restlessness, insomnia, a feeling of doom, excessive urination, and inability to urinate. Can you tell me what to do?
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I appreciate your concern.
Thank you for contacting us.
It is clear from what you have written that these symptoms must be causing you discomfort while being under treatment with lurasidone. Lurasidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug, used mainly for treating diseases like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The symptoms that you have mentioned restlessness, insomnia, impending doom, and changes in urination have been observed in some people taking this medicine.
As you have been taking this medicine for just nine days, it seems highly unlikely that you would have any withdrawal symptoms once you discontinue the drug. Yet, it will be wise to consult your treating physician at the earliest about this. Your doctor will help you decide whether discontinuing the drug is necessary for you or not. Also, if discontinuation is the need of the hour, then he or she will assist you in shifting to another line of treatment so that the disease stays controlled.
It might be sensible for you to consult a physician in case you still experience these symptoms after discontinuing the drug, especially the more serious ones of restlessness, difficulty sleeping, fear or unease, or urination problems. There could be other causes of these symptoms as well.
I hope that I have answered your questions.
Thank you.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
