Can excess weight cause abnormal hormonal levels?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Can you please check my reports and suggest if the levels of LH and FSH are normal? Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your first query consult is on us!
Your blood reports are normal (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I think the test was done on the third or fourth day of periods, They suggested that -
-
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) - This test indicates the number of follicles or eggs in the ovaries. Values up to 7 mIU/ml are normal. A high value indicates a lack of follicles.
-
LH (luteinizing hormone) - This test is an indication of abnormality in the testosterone hormone. A too high value indicates polycystic ovaries. Both the levels in your case are in the normal range.
The only problem can be your weight.
Your weight has to be
Weight (in Kgs) = Height (in cms) -100
From that equation, your expected weight is 52 to 57 kilograms.
As you do not have PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) as per LH value, I suggest you try some weight reduction steps.
-
Avoid fasting, junk food, fast food, and red meat.
-
Reduce the intake of snacks between your meals.
-
Consume low-calorie and high-protein food.
-
Exercise regularly (especially for the waist and hip area) like aerobics, yoga, and brisk walking (swing your hands well).
-
Try to reduce four to eight pounds in a month. Do not hurry on weight reduction, as it will be difficult to maintain.
-
As soon as you reduce at least 11 pounds, changes can be appreciated.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
