Is PEP required after a non-penetrative exposure?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an intimate session in a massage parlor. We were both naked. I fingered her. She tried to sit on me. But I stopped her from doing that.

After a few minutes, she masturbated on me. And she rubbed her vagina on my side thighs for a few minutes. I did not insert my penis in her vagina but touched her vagina with my penis. What is the risk I possess and would you recommend PEP for my case?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is a mild exposure. Touching and running come under mild exposure. Fingering and biting are moderate, yet it is safe. For all the activities, no penetration means no or little possibility of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). I do not think you need any PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis).

I hope this helps

Thank you.
