Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been having trouble sleeping and heard that yoga might help. Can you explain how yoga can improve sleep quality and which postures are particularly beneficial for better sleep? Are there specific routines or practices that I should follow before bedtime? What other lifestyle changes can complement yoga to enhance my sleep? Are there any precautions I should take while doing yoga for sleep improvement? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I can understand your concern.
Yoga helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
Deep breathing and meditation can help balance stress hormone levels and improve sleep patterns.
Stretching and gentle movements in yoga can relieve muscle tension and physical discomfort, making it easier to fall asleep.
I suggest the following l yoga postures for sleep:
To do this, I suggest you must watch proper videos or do and learn under the supervision of a trained person. This must be done after ruling out medical conditions.
Child’s pose - This is done by stretching your arms in front of you, palms facing the floor, or bringing them back alongside your thighs, palms facing up. It calms the mind, relieves stress, and gently stretches the back and hips.
Legs up the wall (it is a passive inversion in which your upper body lies on the ground while your lower back and pelvis are supported by a folded blanket) - Reduces tension in the lower back, improves circulation, and promotes relaxation.
Cat-cow pose (a balancing pose for beginners and helps strengthen the arms, legs, and core muscles) - It eases back tension and aligns the spine.
Seated forward bend (A balanced yoga pose that stretches your entire back body) - This pose helps calm the nervous system.
Corpse pose (Savasana) - It promotes deep relaxation.
Here is how you do it:
Start with deep breathing.
Move into gentle stretches.
Transition to poses.
Finish with savasana.
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
Make your bedroom dark, cool, and quiet.
Avoid screens at least an hour before bedtime.
Avoid caffeine and heavy meals close to bedtime.
Engage in regular exercise.

I hope this information will help you.
