My memory is suppressed and I cannot recall a huge chunk. Kindly help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I seem to have suppressed memories to the point that a huge chunk of my memory and past are gone. I want to recall these deeply suppressed memories but I do not know where to even start. I could really use some help. I cannot remember anything past fifth grade which is worrying because as far as I know apparently there were some really bad events that occurred during that window. I am having problems differentiating false memories (that never happened) and real memories.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you told that your childhood period was full of lots of bad issues and nowadays you are not able to recall those old memories, so it is somewhat good that your mind itself is supporting you to get apart from your bad memories. Do not think that much on this matter as it is not a serious disorder. You may try meditation and relaxation exercises to calm down your feelings. No medication is required at present.
