What is the treatment for a grade 3 meniscal tear?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father, who is 48 years old, is suffering from knee pain. He has a grade 3 tear of the posterior horn medial meniscus. What kind of medication does he need to take?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest him to take the following tablets:

  1. A combination of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol twice for 10 days after food.
  2. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 mg once for 10 days before food.
  3. A combination of calcium and vitamin D3 supplements once for 30 days before food.
  4. Vitamin D3 supplements once daily for 10 days, then once a month for 11 months.

Consult his specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. Take these tablets only if he is not allergic to them. Do not take these tablets if he has bronchial asthma. Temporary avoidance of activities causing pain is recommended. If the knee is swollen or sore, it is advised to refrain from the following positions and activities until the knee pain and swelling subside: squatting, kneeling, twisting and pivoting, jogging, aerobics, dancing, and playing sports. For additional support to the knee joint, wearing a hinged knee brace throughout the day is suggested, which can be removed at night. Additionally, applying ice packs twice daily for 15 minutes each time is recommended for relief.

This professional advice provided by me stands subject to the actual examination of the report or image and is based entirely on inputs provided to me. It should be correlated with clinical findings.

Wishing you excellent health.

Kind regards.
