Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother is 56 years old. She is not getting her regular menstrual cycle for the past six months. Is this normal for her age? What signs does she have to look out for during this time? She is feeling very tired and has put on some weight too. Are all these due to the sudden absence of periods? Does she need to get this tested? What foods does she need to take during this time? Kindly give your opinion on this.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your case and I understand your concern.

It is normal to get such symptoms at premenopausal age. Signs that could be seen during this time include irregular periods, hot flashes, and mood swings. I would suggest your mother do tests including USG (ultrasonogram) abdomen, pelvis scan, serum FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), and pap smear.

Kindly ask her to keep herself hydrated and take at least 0.79 gallons of water per day. I would suggest she add more green leafy vegetables, fruits, and milk to her diet and also a walk daily helps.

Hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
