Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son was recently diagnosed with mesenteric lymphadenopathy. He was given antibiotics, and the doctor told him that it was due to an infection in the intestine, so the lymph nodes had swollen, thus resulting in pain. Sometimes my son says he is in pain when he feels hungry or has overeaten food. The pain comes and then goes. The blood report was also normal. Please tell me what more I should do or what preventive measures I should take since he complains about pain.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I went through your description of the symptoms. It indeed seems to be mesenteric lymphadenopathy. The pain is intermittent in this case. You do not have to worry as long as there is no vomiting or loose stools. This will generally settle down with oral antibiotics and occasionally requires intravenous antibiotics.

Sometimes, the pain may worsen from baseline, in which case there will also be vomiting and abdominal distension. If the above symptoms are not there, you have to give antibiotics and wait for them to settle down for about a week. Until then, give him bland food only. Avoid giving him chips, chocolates, or aerated drinks. Instead, consume freshly prepared and hot food only.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
