How does excessive screen time affect child development?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 18 months old, and he is not responding to his name, but if we call him to give biscuit, he will come and get it. He is active, and if any vehicle sound is heard, he wants to go for a ride. He is eating very well. If we sign, he is listening, but he is not listening while talking. He comes only whenever he wants something. Please suggest what I should do now? When he wants to see the mobile, he takes it and comes to us to switch it on. He is so addicted to mobile and television. But we have restricted mobile and television for three weeks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your description, it is quite obvious that the above phenomenon is very closely linked with excessive screen time. We do not advise screen time of more than two to four hours per day at this particular age.

Reduce the screen time, and you shall see results. A physical examination by a child psychologist should also be able to give a fair judgement if anything else is wrong.
