Can delayed periods mean that someone is pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I missed my periods four days back. So, I did a home pregnancy test for which the results shows one dark pink line and one faint line. I'm confused. Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

The test is a positive test, but the levels of the pregnancy hormone are low which is why one line is faint. There are two possible reasons for that, that is early pregnancy and the levels are still not high enough to cause a strong positive line or it could be an ectopic pregnancy.

You need to get a blood level of beta hCG done to confirm this.

Kindly revert back in case of more queries. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you for the reply doctor,

I have been having pain in my abdomen like the regular period pain from the day I missed my periods. Also. I am having sore nipples. What could be the reason? Kindly guide me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com,

I read your query and understand your concern.

The sore nipples could be due to pregnancy, but the pain in the abdomen needs to be further evaluated with an ultrasonography.

Thank you.
