Hello doctor,
I have always had regular periods in about 26 to 27 days, but I got my periods early in just 23 days last month. I missed my periods this month. It has been 46 days already, and I still have not got my period. I was prescribed T-Press (Telmisartan) medicine for high blood pressure (hypertension) two months ago and took it two to three days. Currently, I am not taking any medication.
Is the missed period a side effect of my medication, and is it normal to miss periods once in a while, or should I be concerned? Also, How can I get my periods as soon as possible? Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Missed periods can be due to different causes like stress, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, and some medicine’s adverse effects. You did not mention your age. Are you married? Do you have any children? Is this the first time your periods got delayed for such a prolonged duration?
The medicine you are taking for hypertension is less likely to cause this. Although seeking medical help in person from a gynecologist is advised, I would suggest:
1) An ultrasound of the lower abdomen.
2) Pregnancy test.
After these two test results, consult a gynecologist. They will guide you with appropriate management.
I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me for any further queries in the future.
