This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is there any possibility of being pregnant after getting five periods as normal after this, I am not getting periods. And I have also did not have sex. That was the last time I had sex, and now is there any possibility? My periods were normal. Now, this is the 44th day, and I have not had my period to date. I feel pain in my stomach. What should I do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Many things can delay periods in addition to pregnancy. Hormonal imbalance, illness, medications, sudden weight loss or weight gain, anxiety, work overload, thyroid irregularities, strict diet, and excessive exerciseare the various factors that can delay periods. If you are unsure of sex in the last two to three months, have beta HCG before having tablets. I suggest taking thetablet Primolut N (Norethisterone) 10 mg twice daily for seven days and then waiting for the next ten days for a withdrawal bleed. Have blood tests on day two bleed (serum testosterone, prolactin, insulin, progesterone, LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) ratio, thyroid function test). Look for abnormal hair growth or sudden weight gain, then have a transvaginal scan and discuss laboratory and scan here or locally.

I hope things will be better.

Best of luck.
