Hello doctor,

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concern.

Missing periods for three months is called secondary amenorrhea and should be evaluated. The first important question is, have you had unprotected sex in the past few months?

Common possible causes could include:

  1. Pregnancy – The most common reason. Even without obvious symptoms, a urine pregnancy test using an early morning sample is recommended.

  2. Hormonal imbalance – Quite common in young women. One frequent cause is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which may be associated with:

    • Irregular or missed periods.
    • Weight gain.
    • Acne.
  • Facial hair growth
  • Mental stress, insomnia, travel, examination period, or other life changes may influence your menstrual period.
  • Thyroid disorders – mostly hypothyroidism. Some signs might be fatigue, weight gain or loss, hair fall.
  • Weight gain or loss, over-exercising.

What you should do now:

  • Do a home pregnancy test if you are sexually active.
  • In case the result is negative, see a gynecologist and get examined, for example:
  • Ultrasound.
  • Thyroid function test.

  • Hormone profile.

Three months without periods should not be ignored, but many causes are treatable once identified. If you are comfortable sharing, please let me know:

  • Your age.

  • Whether you are sexually active.

  • Any recent weight changes, acne, or significant stress.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert if there are any queries.

Thank you.
