What could be the reason for missed period along with soft and slightly open cervix?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 26-year-old female, and I had surgery five years back. I have had my period on time every month, but this month I did not have my period. I did not use any contraceptives, and my cervix is soft and slightly open. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If you have had a previous tubal ligation, the remaining ovary and uterus may still function normally and produce menstrual cycles. However, missing a period can also be caused by various factors, including changes in weight or exercise habits, stress, or certain medications. It is also important to note that missing a period can be an early sign of pregnancy when you are not using contraceptives. A low, soft, and slightly open cervix is also a sign of ovulation. If you suspect you may be pregnant, it is best to take a pregnancy test to confirm.

Thank you.
