I am into intense exercise for three days, and I have light spotting and blood clot. Why is it so?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been having very light spotting for two days, and today I spotted a blood clot. It was dark red. I have been exercising intensely for three days. Can that be the reason? Or is it something serious? Previously I have noticed such symptoms whenever I start heavy exercise like running. Today is 14 to 15 days after my period. Usually, I get a white discharge with little redlining after 14 to 15 days of my period. Also, I had low blood pressure three months ago. I am hoping for your guidance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Slight spotting or bleeding seen around 14 days of your cycle is due to ovulation. This is called Mittelschmerz syndrome. Spotting or bleeding with or without pain occurs before ovulation (release of ovum or egg from the ovary). This is due to the reduction in estrogen. This is quite normal and may or may not recur. It does not need any medication and is not harmful. Also, it may occur in some cycles only, and as you predicted, even heavy exercising causes estrogen to fall slightly. So this, along with Mittelschmerz syndrome, can cause spotting. So do not stress and panic over this. It is a pretty typical phenomenon that needs no treatment unless the bleeding or pain is high. I hope this was useful.

Regards.
