Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I need to know if the COVID-19 vaccine is safe for a person with ADEM?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
ADEM (acute disseminated encephalomyelitis) is a demyelinating disease with only one episode after a vaccine, and the chances for this situation to repeat after another vaccine are rare. So, It is safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
I would suggest you with the Moderna vaccine, which is also recommended for MS (multiple sclerosis) patients because of its fewer adverse effects.
I hope you will find this information helpful. For further questions ask me whenever you need.
Kind regards.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor, for your advice.
I did not get ADEM because of a vaccine. Can I still get the Moderna vaccine?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com
No, the answer does not change, even if ADEM was not related to a vaccine. It is usually a unique episode, and it does not repeat. So, I think that the Moderna vaccine would be safe in your clinical situation.
