Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a small freckle about three to four mm on the side of my foot. It is not different from my skin in appearance. It just seems to be a brown blemish. I think, I have it for a number of years and now I am a bit anxious about what it could be.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The brown spot on your foot could be a mole or lentigine (attachment removed to protect patient identity) as it has been there for long. They are just harmless. You need not worry unless you have a change in its size and color or a family history of skin cancer. You may consult your dermatologist to magnify the spot and look for undesirable changes.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your answer.
I was just anxious as everything I looked up about my symptoms advised that mole in soles of feet have to be more worried about. Is this right?
Please answer.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You do not have to be worried just because the mole is over the sole. A mole that is anywhere on the body can turn cancerous. As most moles on the soles are invisible and the changes happening are prone to go neglected, it is advised to be cautious about them. Of course, there are some melanomas that can arise from moles of the soles. But, they appear very different from the usual ones like the one you have. Not all moles on the body are prone to cancer. However, any changes in color, size, shape and symptom in the mole should arise a suspicion. The best way to confirm is by a skin biopsy. Many a times it is not required and a magnification by dermascopic examination can give clues. I would advise you to keep a record of the picture of your mole and observe for any changes happening over time. Do not panic. In case you are apprehensive about it, you can just get the mole removed by your dermatologist.
Thank you.
