Why is not my daughter's mosquito bite improving with treatment?

Hello doctor,
I am concerned about my daughter who was bitten by a mosquito last thursday, on her face. The bite site has not decreased despite the passage of time. We have been applying Bactroban (Mupirocin) cream to the affected area, but there has been no significant change in appearance.
Fortunately, she is feeding well, has not developed a fever, and does not seem to have discomfort. However, I am concerned about the lack of improvement in the bite’s condition. Please find attached images of the bite at different stages. As you will notice, the bite remains quite pronounced. Could you advise if this is a normal reaction or if there is anything additional we should be doing or any signs we should be looking out for? I appreciate your guidance on how to best proceed with her care.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
I can understand your concerns, but nothing to worry about. It is subsiding, and the post-bite mark is there. Looking at the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), it may be some other insect apart from a mosquito.
What you did is correct in applying Bactroban (Mupirocin) to avoid any infection. As your baby is active, happy, and feeding well, you can use regular moisturizing cream now. The dark mark may take a few weeks to clear off completely. No other medication is required at this stage. Try to protect your baby from mosquito bites and check for other insects in the surroundings.

Thanks for the reply.
Will mosquito bites take a long time to subside in babies? It may be another insect, but I am sure it is a mosquito because I remember waking up at 4 am and hearing one. Please help.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
Some different types of insects that look like mosquitoes or sound like that can cause similar bites. It is the only possibility I mentioned. Also, there are mosquitos, which may give rise to severe reactions. On top of it, it depends on individuals how sensitive they are. I have seen a few kids who get allergic reactions all over their bodies after a single bite. Some kids may get a mild local infection at the bite site, and you have already taken care of it.
Protection is the best solution for the future. So nothing to worry about.
