Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I made an MRI of my head two years ago for a memory problem and headache and constant nausea at that time. Please have a look at it. My query is if there is any abnormality like atrophy, lesion or vascular problem. Kindly note that I already know about the sinus polyp.

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the files (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

  • There is a mucosal polyp in the right maxillary sinus which you are already aware of.
  • There is no obvious brain lesion, not even atrophy in the images uploaded by you.
  • It will help to know if you have had any injury to your head in the recent past or if you are taking any medications for any health condition other than the beta blocker for tachycardia as mentioned.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the prompt reply. For now, I am taking Rabeprazole 20 mg and Rosuvastatin 5 mg. I never had a head injury, but in the past three years, I am wondering about my consciousness. If I am under some stress or in a rush, I am losing my concentration, have a right-sided head pain correlating sometimes with a weak left arm. I did some research on the internet and found that this can be the case if there is panic disorder, depression or shrinkage of some of the brain areas, especially hypothalamus. Thus I want to know if really there is some shrinkage in that area or some sort of muosal thickness.

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing back with an update.

  • There is no significant shrinkage in any part of the brain.
  • Decreased concentration during stress is acceptable at times and this a common behavior.
  • A point to keep in mind is the reason for taking Rosuvastatin and if you are having any hyperlipidemia or increased cholesterol levels.
  • Also, I wonder if there is any condition causing a decreased blood flow to your brain through the carotid arteries. You can discuss with your doctor if you need a carotid and vertebral artery Doppler test.

Regards.
