Will nasal adhesion removal affect my nose's appearance?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently got a nasal adhesion removed from my nose. I was told there would be no swelling after the operation. Will this procedure affect the appearance of my nose or cause any swelling? It took years for my skin to settle and regain its original texture after a septorhinoplasty because of skin flushing and pores. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The inside nasal tissue is entirely different from the outside nasal tissue. The inside tissue is a mucosa, while the outside one is a skin. This type of operation does not cause any nasal swelling, and even if the swelling happens, it will be a temporary swelling just for a few days. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. How long does it take for nasal mucosa to heal after nasal adhesion removal? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It will heal in less than a week. Take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I got the splint removed after one week of the operation. And my doctor wants to see me again after a month to put a scope inside the nose to assess the healing. Does this sound normal? Also, I feel a little challenging to smile. Is this normal after such a small operation? Thanks

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is normal to use an endoscope to check your nasal mucosa after a month. Kindly do not worry about the smiling issue. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I had a deep nasal adhesion inside the left nasal passage. I heard that such nasal adhesion would interfere with the cooling system of the nose. 1) Could this be the reason for my dry nasal passage? 2) Would this operation help the cooling of the mucosa and prevent my nasal passage from getting dry? I did not have my turbinates removed as I did not want to risk an empty nose syndrome. Apparently, can it occur from inferior turbinate reduction? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Removal of adhesions can improve breathing and air cooling. And yes, aggressive reduction of inferior turbinates may result in empty nose syndrome. Regards.
