Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female, and I have a long-term boyfriend who I am sexually active with. At the beginning of the month, we had unprotected sex, but he did not ejaculate inside of me or otherwise, and then, about two days later, I got my period. A couple of days ago, I noticed some white stuff coming out of one of my breasts. It came out on its own, but when I squeezed it a bit, more came out. It has been sore since then. I am not sure if this is something I should be concerned about or whether I should see a doctor about it. I do not believe I am pregnant, but I am not sure what is going on. I am taking Sertraline 150 mg. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

I can provide some general information that may be helpful. If you are experiencing changes in your breasts, it is necessary to test to determine the underlying cause. While breast discharge can have various causes, it is important to rule out any potential concerns. Some possible causes of nipple discharge include hormonal changes, medication side effects, infection, or even certain medical conditions. It is worth noting that breast discharge is not always a sign of pregnancy. If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, you may consider taking a pregnancy test (home urine pregnancy) to help alleviate any worries. However, it is important to remember that no method of contraception is 100 % effective, and it is still possible to become pregnant even if ejaculation does not occur. To address your concerns and determine the cause of the breast discharge and soreness, an ultrasound of the breast has to be done.

Hope this answers your query.

Please get back to me with your home pregnancy test and ultrasound of the breast.

Take care.
