I have numbness despite yoga and vitamins. What to do?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old unmarried woman. For the past three years, I have been experiencing numbness on the left side of my body while sleeping, especially in my left arm, thigh, leg, and shoulder.

The numbness feels more intense sometimes, and my heartbeat becomes fast when I masturbate.

I consulted a neurologist, who said it might be due to hormonal changes. He prescribed Neurobion tablets and vitamin B12 supplements.

I also practice yoga daily, but there has been no improvement. I am worried that this might affect my married life. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I understand how worrying and frustrating this situation must be, especially since it has been ongoing for several years without much improvement.

The numbness you describe on the left side of your body, especially during sleep, along with a fast heartbeat during masturbation, can be unsettling but does not necessarily mean something serious or permanent.

Since your sugar levels are normal and your neurologist did not find major nerve or brain issues, the cause may be related to nerve compression, posture during sleep, vitamin deficiency, or even anxiety and hormonal fluctuations, as your doctor mentioned.

Sometimes when we sleep in certain positions, nerves in the neck, shoulder, or back can get compressed, leading to numbness and tingling sensations.

Your fast heartbeat during sexual activity or masturbation is actually a normal physiological response due to adrenaline and increased blood flow, and it is not a sign of harm or disease.

So ensure your posture, mattress, and pillow provide proper support.

Please do not worry about your marital life, as these symptoms are treatable and do not affect sexual function or fertility.

Continue your healthy habits, and if symptoms persist, you can revisit me to do a further checkup. You are taking the right steps by seeking help and staying proactive.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I am always here to help.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
