Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 34-year-old woman struggling with obesity, currently weighing 250 pounds with a BMI (body mass index) of 39. I have tried various diets and exercise routines over the years, but I have not been able to achieve significant or sustainable weight loss. I am beginning to feel the physical effects, such as joint pain, fatigue, and shortness of breath during everyday activities. I am also concerned about my risk of developing conditions like diabetes and hypertension, as they run in my family. Could you provide guidance on effective medical or non-surgical treatments for obesity? Additionally, are there any lifestyle changes or specific interventions that could help me manage my weight more effectively in the long term?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
You should get yourself investigated before starting medicine. The type of the medicine will depend on the results of your blood tests and whether you want oral or injectable medicines.
Investigations to be done:
CBC (complete blood count).
Sugar-fasting and post-prandial.
Lipid profile.
TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
USG (ultrasound) abdomen.
Renal and liver function tests.
HBA1c (hemoglobin A1c).
ECG (electrocardiogram).
The probable diagnosis is obesity.
Treatment plan will include:
Weight loss diet- as advised by a dietician.
Low-fat or low-calorie diet.
Physical activity 30 to 40 minutes per day.
Medicine can be advised depending on blood investigation results and the choice of the patient for oral vs injectable drugs.
Regarding follow-up: Review with medicines.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
