Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing head tingles for about 19 years. They tend to be on the upper right side of my head but sometimes on the left side. They improve with pressure: if I press my scalp or wear a baseball cap. I do not get headaches and have no other neurological symptoms that I am aware of. A physio has told me I could have a pinched nerve, but have never had any tests to confirm. I do have a dowagers hump and restricted movement in the C1 and C2 vertebrate as a result. Are these symptoms typical of a pinched nerve, or should I ask my doctor to investigate further?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and explain that a pinched nerve in this region (occipital neuralgia) is usually associated with electric shock-like pain in the scalp, usually on the left or the right, triggered by head movements certain head positions. These nerves originate in the C1 and C2 regions so that they could cause the tingling sensation. On the other hand, as this sensation is modulated by pressure on the scalp, it is typical of nerve or muscular pain (tension-type headache). As these symptoms have been going on for such a long time, there is no reason to panic about any brain tumor or other brain disorders. So, in my opinion, there is no reason to investigate further. I would also recommend checking vitamin D plasma levels for possible deficiency. I hope to have been helpful. I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need it.

Kind regards.
