I am suffering from OCD. I can wash my body and hands all the time. Kindly advice.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from OCD. When my sisters and I were going shopping on a street, she touched a septic tank. After that, I noticed that she touched shopping bags, dresses, and after reaching home, she touched curtains, chairs, etc. I am noticing all this, and then I started washing all the things she had touched six months back to today.

Please help me recover from this situation. And please say I am doing wrong or right. I can wash my hands and body all the time because I am irritated by this situation, but I cannot stop.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I think at this point, you need psychological support. So, I would suggest discussing with a psychologist and running psychotherapy to help you out with this washing things and hands problem. Please take note that our body has its own mechanisms to clear all that is bad from inside, including germs or anything.

Furthermore, each time we face any germ, our body starts to produce antibodies to keep this defense in the future. If our body is not functioning well, then we can fall ill. Washing hands and things around is a type of protection. But not too exaggerated.

If you cannot help yourself till now, then you need psychological support from a specialist.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
