Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Hello, so if anyone knows about the menstrual cycle and all, I am not on a contraceptive pill because I do not have unprotected sex with my boyfriend, but I am someone who stresses quickly. A month and a half ago, I took a Plan B pill because I was scared, but the condom slipped away. Usually, I have my period in the last week of the month, but last month, I had it 10 days earlier, and yesterday, the condom broke. So, I took a Plan B pill today, but my app says I am ovulating tomorrow. Are there any risks to it, and is my period normal?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As you are not using a regular contraceptive method, the use of emergency contraception Plan B pill (Levonorgestrel) increases the likelihood of irregular menstrual cycles. The timing of your last period and the use of emergency contraception can affect the timing of your next period. The Plan B pill can delay or lighten your period, as it works by preventing ovulation or fertilization. You may experience a delayed or lighter period this month due to the use of emergency contraception.

Your application indicates that you may be ovulating tomorrow, but it is essential to note that the accuracy of ovulation prediction apps can vary, and they should be used as a guide only. If you have concerns about ovulation, it is best to consult with a healthcare provider. If you have unprotected sex, there is always a risk of pregnancy, regardless of whether you are ovulating or not. The effectiveness of emergency contraception decreases with time, so it is essential to take it as soon as possible after unprotected sex. I hope I have to answer your question. Take care.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
