How to get rid of painless small bumps in the corners of my mouth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have tiny little painless dots in the corners of my mouth on each side. They are nowhere else on my body, and it feels inflamed when I lick them because they are annoying. I am not sure if I have always had them, but they get a little painful when I open my mouth and stretch out as far as possible. I have no idea what they are, and I hope it is not HSV 1, and I have been panicking. However, the last time I had sex was a month ago, and there is nothing wrong down there. Please help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The dots look like Fordyce spots or ectopic sebaceous glands. It is an asymptomatic and harmless condition. The pain while opening the mouth and inflammation at the angle of the mouth indicates that you might have angular cheilitis. It might be caused by candidal infection (fungal infection) or sometimes bacterial infection and can worsen by repeated licking, so avoid that. I suggest the following medicines for 10 days. Take Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg weekly for two weeks. Apply Candid-B (Clotrimazole and Beclomethasone) cream twice a day for 10 days. Consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent. Take care. Thank you.
