Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have developed a small white bump on the left lateral tongue a week back, irritating, and pains. I used to chew zarda for a few years and quit the habit seven months ago when the lockdown was imposed. I am concerned about this white patch. I had also visited an ENT specialist, and there were no issues. I am currently using Anabel gel. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to ciliniq.com.

I have seen the image (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and the clarity of the image is not good. But I have mentioned a few possible causes: Inflammation of the papillae due to chemical burns like heavy use of high fluoride-containing toothpaste, or due to sharp edges of molar teeth leukoplakia or keratitis due to nicotine. Use vitamin capsules 2000 IU regularly for two weeks. Use capsule Becosules (Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B7, B9, B12, Vitamin C, and Calcium Pantothenate) once a day for one week. Use Mucopain (Benzocaine) gel locally twice a day for one week. If symptoms are not improved, please review with a complete blood picture and serum B12 levels report. Do not worry. Stress also is one of the risk factors to aggravate the condition. Eat green leafy vegetables and fruits, and avoid alcohol. Take care.

Thank you, doctor, for your reply.

Please find the attached picture with better clarity.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Because of your chewing habit, the lesion appeared. You said you have already stopped the habit; that is a good try not to pick it up again. The white patch may be a plaque-type lichen planus or a leukoplakic patch. As mentioned earlier, along with vitamin a capsules, I am adding another two more tablets,

  • Tablet Oxitard (Vitamin A, C, and E, Selenium, Manganese, Zinc, and Copper) twice a day for 30 days and tablet Anxit (Alprazolam and Sertraline) 0.5 mg once at night.
  • Eat more leafy vegetables, especially carrots.
  • Maintain a healthy diet and stress-free life.
  • Come for a re-evaluation after 30 days.

Thank you.
