Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from hypothyroidism and taking medicine for the same. Recently, for a few months, I have had a blood clot of bright red color during my period. My period lasts for a maximum of three days. When I started my periods, I used to have a clot on the last day of my period. I used to have a lot of cramps and pain. But after the delivery of my child, I had very little cramps and pain. But now I do have pain and cramps. I am trying for a second child as well. I had an ultrasound done that showed a functional cyst in the ovary. Do I have to worry about this?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

The passage of blood clots during menstrual bleeding is not unusual. It is perfectly alright to pass a few clots during the heavy bleeding days. Since you stated your period lasts a maximum of 3 days, you need not worry. Functional cysts are normal findings in the ovary. It just means you are ovulating.

Since you are trying to conceive and your thyroid is well under control, do not worry, and start taking Folic acid tablets if not started already.

Hope I am able to help you.

Thanks and regards.
