Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 40-year-old and have been recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis; the latest MRCP reports show a mind calcification, and I have also developed diabetes. My Lipase count is eight instead of the normal 13, and my amalyse is normal, around 89. I have been advised Lantus 12 units/day and Dianorm for diabetes. Fasting blood sugar levels are 90 mg/dL and PP 190 mg/dL. For pancreatitis, I am taking Panlipase, B fit, Alcoliv, Antoxid, Meganeuron, and Happi 1. I am not eating spicy, oily food, cheese, or butter. Now I get oily orange stools. Is it a side effect of medicines? Or what would be the next line of treatment? I feel no pain in my stomach or back. My weight is 59 kilograms and is constant. Please advise if all of the above medicines are necessary and what I should do to gain extra weight.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I appreciate your health concern; chronic pancreatitis is a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes that may cause you to be unable to digest protein and fats in your food. In addition, oily stools may be due to the enzymes you take orally (Panlipase) that may not be sufficient to digest your consuming fats. If fats are deficient, there is decreased absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, so vitamin deficiency happens. So you have to consume the above tablets.

If you have any doubts, please consult your gastroenterologist. They will examine and treat you accordingly.

I hope you find it helpful.

Regards.
