Why does acidity cause burping and breath issues in my wife?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

During acidity/gastric problems, my wife burped frequently and had breath problems. Also, during acidity, she feels pain in her neck and head and takes DSR, Rexipra-20, and Shicalm-H.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am deeply concerned about your worries.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

  1. Ingestion of food rapidly or ingestion of air during food intake are common causes of burping.

  2. Eat slowly and avoid talking. Any air ingested will come out during this time.

  3. Acidity is another cause. However, since you are on Pantocid (Pantoprazole) or other DSR (proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and Domperidone), acidity should be reduced. She needs to take it regularly. Ensure she takes these medications as prescribed, preferably before meals.

  4. Avoiding spicy, oily, and junk foods, along with reducing caffeine intake, can significantly help in controlling acidity.

  5. Breathing problems and headaches are due to stress. Practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, and maintaining a proper sleep routine can be beneficial.

  6. Regular physical activity like morning walking is also helpful.

  7. Encourage good hydration, but around two to three liters of water per day is generally sufficient unless otherwise advised. A balanced, protein-rich diet taken at regular intervals is important.

If symptoms persist, worsen, or are associated with chest pain, weight loss, or severe discomfort, further evaluation by a physician is recommended.

I hope this is clear, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Do follow up whenever needed.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
