Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is the Pap (Papanicolaou test) smear test normal? I am worried as it says please follow up with a gynecologist. Please see the attached report.

Nature of material received: Cervical pap smears - two slides received.

Specimen type: Conventional smears.

Reporting system: The Bethesda system, 2014.

Specimen adequacy: Cellular smears.

  1. Smears reveal few superficial, many parabasal, and many intermediate squamous cells.
  2. Many clusters of endocervical glandular cells are seen.
  3. The background shows occasional neutrophils and many naked nuclei.
  4. Koilocytes and dysplastic cells are not seen.

Interpretation:

  1. Benign atrophic smears.
  2. Negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy.

Thank you.

Hello,

I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.

I am here to give you the best care possible.

I have seen all three attachments (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). It shows that you are a known case of hypertension along with thyroid. You had menopause 10 years back so the pap smear reveals the same condition. First of all, let me be clear that there is no sign of any malignancy or cancer in the pap smear. Secondly, it shows a condition of menopause that the hormonal activity is minimal which is quite normal according to your age. There is a certain naked nuclear area seen which shows atrophy. You have been asked to consult your gynecologist only in this connection. If you have any dryness of the vagina or itching you may get a consultation in this regard. As far as the medical point of view is concerned it is a report with no signs of malignancy.

I hope your query got resolved.

Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
