I have pain while urinating after sex, and I have paraphimosis. What to do?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I have paraphimosis. Some pain while urinating and the urine color are yellow. This happened after 15 hours of my sexual intercourse. I consulted a general physician. I have been prescribed the tablet Alprazolam. I was instructed to take a Celebrex Blood test and computed tomography scan. The results were normal. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Paraphimosis is swelling of prepuce skin and unable to return it to normal position. If your diagnosis of paraphimosis is correct, you should immediately visit a urologist because the skin needs to be manually brought back to normal position as early as possible. Otherwise, swelling will keep increasing. After reducing the skin to a normal position, a mild dressing will be needed so that skin does not retreat again. You have not mentioned why a CT (computed tomography) scan was done because the diagnosis of paraphimosis does not require a CT scan. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor.

Will it be fine if the treatment is done within 24 hours? Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It depends on the severity of the paraphimosis, the rule in paraphimosis treatment is that it should be done as early as possible. If the severity is minimal to even moderate, treatment upto 24 hours will resolve the paraphimosis. Even after correct positioning of the prepuce, swelling may persist for a few days to a week. I hope this helps.

Thank you.
