What could be the reason for minty breath?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having minty breath. What could be the reason? How can I treat it?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern. You may have parosmia or phantosmia. Parosmia is mostly due to neurological conditions like epilepsy. Phantosmia is olfactory hallucinations that are psychological. So you need to do an MRI brain to rule out the organic cause of your parosmia. If it is normal then we assume that it is olfactory hallucinations and you need antipsychotic medications to deal with it.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
