Hello doctor,

I have hirsutism, cystic acne, and painful heavy bleeding periods. I consulted a gynecologist, and she gave me birth control pills. I told her I wanted to become pregnant. I also expressed concerns about endometriosis and PCOS. I am confused because I am trying to become pregnant. I do not want to prevent pregnancy. I feel I am not releasing an egg when I ovulate, and I need to know if I need hormones. Kindly give your suggestions.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your concern about PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), and endometriosis (a condition in which the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside the uterus) should first be investigated and established. I suggest you perform the following tests to diagnose PCOS and endometriosis:

1. A hormonal profile.

2. Ultrasound of the pelvis.

3.A diagnostic laparoscopy (if required) is performed to evaluate endometriosis.

In both conditions, the treatment involves OC (oral contraceptive) pills, either in combination or pure progesterone pills. If the cycles are anovulatory, I suggest you plan pregnancy after treating the ovulation problem. I also suggest ovulation induction to induce ovulation with drugs for a higher success rate.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
