Can PCOS/PMOS delay pregnancy or cause infertility?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS a few years back. I have also been suffering from acne for the past few years. I am taking medications for my acne problem. My dermatologist has prescribed me Glucophage 500 milligrams, Diane 35 milligrams (Ethinylestradiol and Cyproterone acetate), Maxinoin 20 milligrams, and Azithromycin 500 milligrams.

  1. I also got my hormone levels tested. I want to know if my condition is curable and if it will cause any serious problems in the future.
  2. Also, will it be difficult for me to get pregnant or have problems like infertility?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Unexplained weight gain, irregular periods, abnormal hair growth on arms, forearms, legs, face, and chin are all signs of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome). A lot of medications and over-treatment can also make things complicated. I want to know

  1. How long have you been on Glucophage?
  2. You have a normal BMI (body mass index), and your prolactin levels are increased. Which other tests have you undergone?
  3. Also, the medications Diane 35 milligrams (hormonal tablet), and tablet Glucophage (Metformin) 500 milligrams must not be taken for the long term as they have many side effects. Also, do you have multiple follicles or cysts on the ovaries?

I suggest you get your serum insulin levels checked and follow the instructions given below -

  1. Focus more on improving your health naturally rather than just taking medications.
  2. Have a healthy diet with less oil, spices, sugar, and salt.
  3. Exercise regularly, practice meditation, and yoga. Maintain a healthy weight according to your BMI (body mass index).
  4. Apply a mud mask on your face daily to reduce acne.
  5. Indulge in outdoor recreational activities.
  6. Get a complete health check-up done and get yourself treated if there is any issue.

I hope this has helped you out.

Thanks and regards.
