Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
The link between PCOS/PMOS and diabetes: I want to speak to an expert about the latest research on the connection between PCOS/PMOS and type 2 diabetes. What should women know?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PCOS/PMOS) have a high incidence of developing diabetes. The risk of diabetes increases with persistent PCOS/PMOS.
PCOS/PMOS is associated with adverse cardiovascular risks, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. PCOS/PMOS and its association with diabetes are not related to the BMI of the women. This means that lean PCOS/PMOS are at an equal risk of developing diabetes as obese PCOS/PMOS.
Women with irregular periods, oligomenorrhea, hirsutism, and difficulty in conception have to undergo a detailed report on their PCOS/PMOS status. A few lifestyle modifications, exercise, dietary changes, and medications will help them combat this condition.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
